Common Colors: red, pink, orange, salmon, peach, apricot, yellow, purple, lavender, white and bicolors

Uses: tulips are the symbol of spring and with an endless variety of colors and bicolors, they are easy to incorporate in virtually any theme. Tulips bring a vibrancy of life to arrangements. Their unique shape and delicate stem make them an interesting addition to designs.

There are hundreds of varieties and colors
In ancient times, to give a red tulip was to declare your love. The black center of the red tulip was said to represent the lover’s heart, burned to a coal by love’s passion. To give a yellow tulip was a declaration of your love that is utterly hopeless.
In the mid 1800′s, a farmer in Massachusetts who settled 500 acres of land was said to have imported many different plants from all over the world in his garden, among them, tulips. This seems to be the first sighting of the tulip in America.

A peek into Nannette’s Floral and Decor Workshop

Peony

(pee-OWN-ee) large blooms, often up to 6 inches in diameter with tissuelike petals. Many peony’s emanate a delightful scent.

COMMON COLORS:

Pink, red, lavender, purple, salmon, apricot, yellow, cream, white and bicolors

USES:

Peonys are delicate looking. They’re paper-like quality makes them dainty and graceful in an arrangement. The color variety ranges between bright bold shades and muted tones, as well as two shades at once. They’re used in all types of arrangements.

SEASON:

Peonys are in season from late spring through the summer but can be imported in the fall

FUN FACTS:

Very popular flower in China
One of the oldest used flowers in the world, known to be painted, drawn and written about since ancient times
The root of the peony was used in Japan for treatment of convulsions
State flower of Indiana
Myth has it that mischievous Nymphs were said to hide the petals which made the language of peonies mean “bashfulness” or “mysterious”

Your wedding is going to be one of the most memorable days of your life. It will be magical and beautiful, but if you’re thinking nothing will go wrong, you should think again. The average wedding day is around 13 hours (from getting ready to getting into the get away car) The most common mistake brides make is forgetting to eat until the reception, causing irritability, fatigue and possibly fainting. Hopefully no big trip-ups will occur, but little things are bound to happen. It’s good to be prepared so the small things stay simple inconveniences instead of major ones.

Be sure to put together a small bag of just-in-casers. Below are some suggestions of what to include.

After a successful and busy Holiday Party and Winter Wedding season, we’re excited to be moving into the spring season again! Not only are we hungry for the warmer weather, but we’re looking forward to the exciting trends and styles we see each spring.

Speaking of trends, every Friday, we’ll take a look at what’s trending with wedding flowers. On Flower Fridays, we’ll take a peek in to Nannette’s Floral and decor workshop, where imaginations are brought to life by colorful ideas, themes and the talent of our preferred florist, Nannette York.

Hydrangea

(hy-DRAN-juh): Small flat, four-petaled florets that occur in dense, large rounded clusters at stem ends.

Common colors

White, green, blue, dark pink/purple

USES

A classic Wedding flower choice, hydrangeas bring elegance and sophistication to arrangements. Hydrangeas are used in larger arrangements because of their size, most commonly bouquets and centerpieces.

SEASON

Hydrangeas are considered in season in mid-spring to late summer, making it the perfect wedding season flower.

FUN FACTS

The pink hydrangea has risen in popularity especially in Asia. Pink hydrangeas can have different meanings, but generally they mean, “You are the beat of my heart”.

Hydrangeas contain trace amounts of cyanide and can be poisonous if ingested. (In large quantities)
